Department of Nursing

 Please join us in celebrating the newly created College of Health Professions.  Dr. Denise Robinson has been appointed Interim Dean of the College.  The College is composed of three departments:

1.  Allied Health - Chair Valerie Rowland

2.  Nursing - Chair Dr. Carrie McCoy

3.  Advanced Nursing Studies - Chair Dr. Marilyn Schleyer

 

 

The Department of Nursing within the School offers four innovative nursing programs to prepare you for professional nursing practice:

  • The Bachelor of Science (BSN) in Nursing.
  • The RN to BSN completion program for those who already hold an RN license.
  • The 2nd-Degree BSN (ABSN) program for people who already hold a bachelor's degree in another field.
  • The Master of Science (MSN) in Nursing. The MSN program offers a track in:
    • nursing administration
    • nurse education
    • primary care offering foci in:
      • adult
      • pediatric
      • family
      • geriatric practice

In addition, a Nurse Practitioner Advancement program is offered, as well as a Post-Master's Certificate for nurses who already have earned a masters degree in nursing in another area.

NKU's Nursing Program is directly associated with world class clinical affiliations such as Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center (acclaimed by US News as one of America's Best Hospitals - 2006), St. Elizabeth Medical Center (recognized by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a Magnet hospital), and other top ranked hospitals located throughout the Greater Cincinnati area. Multiple additional experiences include area nursing homes, rehabilitation facilities, and primary health care settings.
